About us
Rerooting, Rerouting is our online publication where we post articles, think pieces, poetry, and other media related to climate and emotional literacy.
We’re trying to introduce new, important, or interesting ideas. Our goal is to spark dialogue and deeper reflection. We’re not going to shy away from talking about weird or controversial topics.
We want to establish new understandings (re-root), and then use that to collectively shift our societal values (re-route). The best thing about Rerooting, Rerouting is that you can also subscribe to it like a newsletter—so every time we post, you'll get our writing right there in your inbox!
Science describes accurately from outside, poetry describes accurately from inside. Science explicates, poetry implicates. Both celebrate what they describe. We need the languages of both science and poetry to save us from merely stockpiling endless “information” that fails to inform our ignorance or our irresponsibility.

sword fern collective was formed out of love for both people and the planet. Co-leads Victor, Paige, and Erica identified a need for climate change education that centres hope and compassion instead of despair.
sword fern collective aims to advance climate justice by providing everyone, particularly educators and students, with the tools to discuss climate issues and ideate climate solutions. We created Rerooting, Rerouting as a place to share information and new perspectives on the climate crisis.
Our mission
To establish a baseline of climate knowledge, but also a baseline of our own selves, for boundaries, empathy, compassion, justice, and emotional literacy in order to address wicked problems.
To help teachers, educators, and students talk about climate change and justice in a hopeful way.
To help people develop the capacity to do things themselves and self-organize.
To help schools, organizations, and youth be successful in succession planning, embedding, and implement long-term strategy in climate and justice.
Who we are!
Paige: A certified granola girlie (she/her) born and raised in Langley, BC. I’ve always lived on the border of agriculture and suburbia, which ignited my passion for sustainable communities. I studied resource and environmental management and geographic information science, and want to pursue a masters' in climate disaster prevention (where? when? who knows…). I’ve been a climate activist for !!10 years now!! (hi old), and will be 4 lyfe. Big fan of trail running, hiking, cycling, rock climbing, thrifting, and reading fantasy books. Also a big fan of Victor’s writing <3
Victor: I’m a chaotic queer POC (he/they) that grew up in Burnaby and now living in Montréal. I studied human geography and I have a cert in urban studies, and a graduate cert in environmental education and communication! I worked in the social housing sector and I care too much about our society. I try to do a lot of writing and poetry and reading (go follow Paige’s booktok!!) and I also like biking and rock climbing and absorbing personality traits from other people. cringe and also a certified yapper.
Erica (she/her): I’m like, really into arts and culture - specifically the ways which the arts can be can be applied as a tool to strengthen communities and preserve shared histories. I’m a classical trumpet player turned shower vocalist and ukulele plucker, and I can almost always be found running around in the woods or (more likely :’) ) hunched over my laptop, latte in hand, tip tapping away at my latest project. My main loves in life include reading, gravel biking, and my gorgeous gorgeous pals - including the other 2/3rds of sword fern <3 . I love talking about what I do, so hit me up to chat arts, business, music, life … info below!
